Policy/Procedure
When it has been determined by the Chief, Acting Chief, or Deputy Chief of Operations that ‘Task Force’ Operations are to be enacted, the following provisions shall be considered:
1. Location: A fire station close to the problem area shall be considered. Consideration shall be given to the ability of the station to house equipment. Consideration shall also be given to on scene standby deployment if the situation warrants such action. Normally, units would remain at the Task Force Station.
2. Equipment: A minimum recommended size of a ‘task force’ shall be: one Engine, one rescue, and one Chief, or, two Engines and one Chief.
3. Fire Runs: Units shall respond as a group and be known as ‘Task Force #’.
4. Emergency Medical Runs: A first responder company, Medic Unit, and a Chief shall be dispatched to any Emergency Medical run into the trouble area. If the units are responding from different locations, they shall meet at a predetermined location outside of the trouble area and proceed to the scene together.
5. Dispatching: Fire Dispatch and EMS Dispatch shall be notified and made aware of the situation and be given specific instructions regarding the dispatch of equipment on fire and emergency runs.
