Policy/Procedure

1. As soon as practical, Command shall notify Dispatch of the status of the companies remaining on the scene

  • (i.e. which ones are returning, which are in service but will remain on the scene to help pick up, and an estimation of how long the rest of the companies will be out of service.)

2. Before fire personnel leave the scene, apparatus shall be inventoried. Lost or broken equipment will be handled as described in other sections of this manual.

3. The member responsible for completion of the National Fire Incident Report (NFIR), shall ensure that all pertinent information has been collected.

4. If possible, fire personnel shall conduct a final walk through of the building before leaving the scene.

5. The building shall be secured as much as possible by fire personnel.

6. Fire personnel shall ensure that any wet hose is secure and will not fall off the apparatus while returning to quarters.

7. Low Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) cylinders or damaged SCBA equipment shall be handled as per the “Air Unit Procedure.”

8. Fire personnel shall get permission from Command to leave the scene.
