Definitions

A High Visibility Safety Vest is a Class II Garment intended for users who need greater visibility and whose activities occur near highways or roadways.

  • Directing traffic around an accident or fire incident
  • Aiding a stranded motorist

2. High Visibility Safety Vests are provided to every seated riding position on Toledo Fire and Rescue Department apparatus.

3. A High Visibility Safety Vest shall be worn in a fashion that allows it to be seen by oncoming traffic. The vest can be worn over the firefighter turnout coat or Class B uniform. Personnel who are on-scene and are not directly exposed to fire, flame, excessive heat, hazardous materials or other competing hazards would be expected to wear a high visibility vest. Member(s) assigned to Fire Control shall not wear a reflective vest due to the flammability. Instead they shall wear their turnout gear.
