Policy/Procedure

1. Standard Operating Procedures for paint store fires will include the following:

1. Where there are tenants above the store, fire personnel shall evacuate occupants promptly, even for small fires.
   
   
2. Fires in paint stores can spread very rapidly as containers of flammable liquids break or explode, such as aerosol cans. Drums for dispensing thinners (usually stored in the back room) may rupture and explode violently.
   
   
3. Incident Commanders and Company Officers shall exercise caution to avoid placing fire personnel where they may become trapped by a rapidly spreading fire.
   
   
4. Incident Commanders shall consider a defensive attack on any paint store that is well involved upon arrival.
