C-43 Fuel Oil Tank Leaking - Domestic

Policy/Procedure

1. If a domestic fuel oil tank is leaking, crewmembers shall first shut off the emergency switch to the burner.

2. Fire personnel shall then close the oil supply valve to the burner.

3. If available, crewmembers shall utilize an emergency tank repair kit to stop the leak.

4. If the leak is serious, fire personnel shall shut off and/or remove all sources of ignition until all the oil can be picked up. If there is a floor drain present, it should be sealed off.

5. NOTE: It is the owner’s responsibility to remove/clean-spilled oil. Crew members shall not clean up spilled oil.

6. The Incident Commander shall update Dispatch and direct Dispatch personnel to contact Environmental Services and/or the Sewer Department.
