Policy/Procedure

1. When a fire occurs, the officer in charge should make every effort to notify the owner. This may involve questioning neighbors or bystanders in an effort to determine when an owner or occupant may be expected to return.

2. If the owner cannot be contacted, write in the ‘comment’ section of the NFIR that the owner was not notified and FPB will attempt to notify the owner.

3. Provisions may be required to secure the building from vandals. Dispatch personnel may be requested to notify the City’s Neighborhoods Department if a building cannot be secured utilizing materials on-site.
