Purpose
Any member receiving a bid to a specialty station (5, 6, 7, 13 or 18) agrees to abide by the language set forth in the Local 92 CBA section 2125.44 (Training and Career Enhancement Program) and section 2125.54 (Transfers). This includes remaining in the assigned bid for a minimum of 3 years and remaining active in the specialty program for a minimum of 5 years.
Policy/Procedure
Public Safety Dive Team
The members awarded a bid to Station #5 must achieve and maintain qualified membership on the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Public Safety Dive Team. This includes attaining certifications as a public safety diver and an Ohio Department of Watercraft recognized ‘Safe Boating’ course. If a member refuses, fails to successfully achieve the required training at the first reasonable opportunity, or fails to maintain current qualifications, the member will lose that position and will be returned to his or her former position. If that position has been filled, then he or she may be placed into a relief pool until such time as they may bid.
Hazmat / WMD
The members awarded a bid to Stations #6 and #7 must achieve and maintain qualified membership on the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Hazardous Materials Unit. These qualifications will include, but not be limited to, successfully completing the WMD/hazardous materials technicians’ course and passing the hazardous materials medical physical. If a member refuses, fails to successfully achieve the required training at the first reasonable opportunity, or fails to maintain current qualifications, the member will lose that position and will be returned to his or her former position. If that position has been filled, then he or she may be placed into a relief pool until such time as they may bid.
Technical Rescue Team (TRT)
The members awarded a bid to Stations #6 and #18 must achieve and maintain qualified membership on the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Technical Rescue Team. The Technical Rescue Team includes training and certification in confined space, trench, rope, extrication, grain, and structural collapse rescue. If a member refuses, fails to successfully achieve the required training at the first reasonable opportunity, or fails to maintain current qualifications, the member will lose that position and will be returned to his or her former position. If that position has been filled, then he or she may be placed into a relief pool until such time as they may bid.
Fireboat Operator/Mate
Members that are awarded a bid to Station #13 must achieve and maintain qualified membership on the Fireboat crew. This includes attaining certification of an Ohio Department of Watercraft recognized ‘Safe Boating’ course as well as successfully completing TFRD competencies. TFRD Fireboat crew training includes (Boat Mate) and (Boat Operator) training. If a member refuses, fails to successfully achieve the required training at the first reasonable opportunity, or fails to maintain current qualifications, the member will lose that position and will be returned to his or her former position. If that position has been filled, then he or she may be placed into a relief pool until such time as they may bid.
