Policy/Procedure

SCBA facepiece fit testing shall be performed on all fire personnel annually, or whenever a member experiences seal problems due to poor facepiece seal capability. Fit testing shall also be performed whenever a new facepiece is issued. Quantitative fit testing shall be the preferred testing method using an approved instrument.

1. Records of facepiece fit testing shall be documented and kept on file at the Maintenance Bureau as well as electronically stored and accessible to members. Facepiece testing records shall contain the following information:

  • The name of the member tested;
  • The date of the test:
  • The type of test performed;
  • The specific make, model and size of facepiece tested;
  • The results of the test in pass/fail format.

2. Testing will begin in January of each year and shall be performed in conjunction with maintenance days or other scheduled programs throughout the year until September. Members missing a scheduled testing day will be tested on an individual basis from October through December until the testing process is completed.

3. Testing shall be scheduled and performed through the Maintenance Bureau.
