Policy/Procedure
1. The use and appearance of beds within the stations of the Fire Department are herewith described:
- Each member of a company shall be assigned a bed in accordance with current directives.
- It is the responsibility of each member to provide his/her own bed linen.
- Unless delayed by an alarm, all beds shall be properly made up by 2030 hours. Until 2030 hours, all mattresses, pillows, and blankets will be aired as outlined by current policies.
- Members are prohibited from using a bed in a station when not on duty.
- Beds shall not be used for any reason between the hours of 0630 and 2030 hours without permission of a Chief Officer.
- Bed lamps may be used when permitted by the Station Captain.
- Individuals are prohibited from lying in bed with shoes on or sleeping in a bed that is not made up with bedding including a top and bottom sheet and a pillow case.
- With the exception of the watchman's cot, blankets, beds, and parts thereof shall not be removed from designated dormitories.
- Stations that have individual sleeping quarters shall maintain open doors from 0700 x 2030 hours.
- If at anytime there is more than one person in individual sleeping quarters, the door to the sleeping quarters shall remain open.
