Policy/Procedure

1. Questions from the news media or civilians concerning the cause of any fire shall be directed to the Incident Commander.

2. If the cause is suspicious or incendiary, the cause should be categorized as “undetermined” until an investigation is made by a Fire Investigator and the cause is determined.

3. The Incident Commander shall inform any person with a legitimate request for information, such as the owner or the media that the cause is “under investigation”.

4. Further requests for information shall be directed to the Department’s Public Information Officer (PIO).
