Policy/Procedure

1. A minimum of eight unit members shall be required for the Memorial Service on June 10 of each year.

2. The following colors shall be presented for this function:

  1. National
  2. State
  3. City
  4. Firefighters Memorial

3. A Unit Commander shall be designated and one Unit Member shall be stationed at each corner.

4. Position of Observance for on or off-duty fire personnel

  1. Fire personnel dressed in the summer Class “A” uniform with cap and tie shall take their position about four feet behind the chairs. Members shall face the memorial, divide themselves equally on both sides of the memorial, and leave an aisle in the middle. Members off duty, in uniform, shall adhere to the TFRD grooming policy.

  2. Fire personnel dressed in Class “B” uniforms with cap and tie shall arrange themselves approximately four feet behind those members dressed in Class “A” uniforms, in similar formation.

  3. Fire personnel dressed in civilian clothing shall station themselves behind the uniformed firefighters or be seated in chairs.

  4. Fire personnel shall be in position no later than 1155 hours.

5. Attention to Duty

  1. Fire personnel are to follow orders given by the Unit Commander positioned southwest of the formation.

  2. At 1200 hours, a gong shall be rung to begin the memorial service.

  3. Flag bearers shall assume their positions. As the flag bearers pass and take their position, the Unit Commander shall order “PARADE…REST”.

  4. Fire personnel shall remain at “Parade Rest” until the commander orders “ATTENTION”.

  5. Once at “Attention”, the commander will order “PRESENT…ARMS”. Fire personnel shall raise their right arm to a salute position and hold this position until the command “ORDER…ARMS” is given.

  6. Fire personnel shall then return to “Attention” and ordered to “Parade…Rest.” This will follow throughout the memorial service.
