However, in the event that an altercation develops between Fire Department personnel and a civilian(s), the following procedures shall be followed: **1.** Fire personnel shall protect themselves and their co-workers. **2.** Fire personnel involved shall request a Police Crew ‘Code 3’ and or press the Emergency Button(s) on their portable radios. They shall inform Dispatch they are involved in an altercation. **3.** An additional first responder shall be requested, if necessary. **4.** Names of all personnel on the scene shall be provided to responding police crews. **5.** A Battalion Chief shall be dispatched to the scene. The Battalion Chief shall investigate the incident immediately and inform the appropriate Deputy Chief of the details surrounding the incident at his/her earliest convenience.
