**Policy/Procedure** 

**1.** Questions from the news media or civilians concerning the cause of any fire shall be directed to the Incident Commander.

**2.** If the cause is suspicious or incendiary, the cause should be categorized as “undetermined” until an investigation is made by a Fire Investigator and the cause is determined.

**3.** The Incident Commander shall inform any person with a legitimate request for information, such as the owner or the media that the cause is “under investigation”.

**4.** Further requests for information shall be directed to the Department’s Public Information Officer (PIO).
