Every vehicle generates exhaust whenever it leaves or returns to a station. If not properly captured, this exhaust will enter not only the apparatus bay but also the living quarters. As a result, fire personnel can be exposed to vehicle exhaust for a significant portion of their shifts. Scientific evidence suggests an association between lung cancer and occupational exposure to vehicle exhaust emissions. This procedure, in conjunction with current Non Emergency Procedure B-2 “Backing Apparatus”, applies to the use of the vehicle exhaust removal system. **Scope** All Toledo Fire and Rescue Department personnel **Policy/Procedure** **1.** Any fire station that has a vehicle exhaust removal system (Plymovent) shall attach the supplied connection (boot) to the exhaust tailpipe of the apparatus before or immediately as it enters the fire station. **2.** Although any person may connect the Plymovent boot, it shall be the responsibility of the officer or acting officer backing up the vehicle to ensure it gets connected. **3.** All TFRD vehicles equipped with vehicle exhaust adapters are to remain connected to the Plymovent system when parked in the apparatus bays. At no time shall the exhaust system be connected to any personally owned or City of Toledo owned vehicle not equipped with the proper exhaust adapters. Problems with the Plymovent exhaust system shall be submitted according to the [[b_manual:b64|Non-Emergency Procedure B-64 “Building Maintenance”]]. **VIOLATION OF POLICY** Violation of this policy is cause for disciplinary action. \\ ---- See Also: ---- <- b_manual:B62 ^ b_manual:start|Index ^ b_manual:B64 ->
