It shall be the driver’s responsibility to ensure that all members have their seatbelts buckled before proceeding. Failure to comply with this requirement shall be considered a safety violation for the driver and/or member under [[a_manual:article_XX|Article XX]], Section L, of the Department’s Rule Book. **4.** Fire Department vehicles that can be locked shall be locked whenever left unattended outside of quarters. Each officer, acting officer, or member riding the seat of a unit shall be held responsible for equipment that is lost or stolen from an unlocked vehicle. Vehicles that cannot be locked shall not be left unattended in non-emergency situations unless they are parked in a secure area. Special consideration shall be made, in emergency situations, to keep a member attending to any vehicle that cannot be locked unless that member's immediate presence is needed to handle the emergency at hand.
