 +**Purpose**
 +
 +To ensure the safety of TFRD personnel while backing apparatus and accident prevention.
 +
 +----
 +
 +**Policy/Procedure**
 +
 +**1.** All fire personnel excluding the driver, on any TFRD apparatus shall exit the vehicle and ALL personnel shall assist in backing any and all apparatus into the desired location.
 +
 +**2.** The driver is ultimately responsible for the safe operations of the apparatus AT ALL TIMES!
 +
 +**3.** If driver loses sight of the backer, they shall immediately stop apparatus until they once again gain sight of their backer!
 +
 +**4.** Plymovent person is NOT a backer unless apparatus has only 2 persons assigned. If the plymovent person is to be utilized as a backer, the following procedure shall be followed:
 +  *The Plymovent person shall guide apparatus to doorway of bay and driver shall stop rig completely. 
 +  *The Plymovent shall be attached to apparatus, and then plymovent person shall move into position where he/she is clearly visible to the driver. 
 +  *The Plymovent person will then guide apparatus slowly and safely into bay.
 +
 +**5.** Reflective vests shall be utilized by all fire personnel when backing on public streets and or highways.
 +
 +**6.** Portable radios shall be utilized in case contact needs to be made with the driver or an emergency stop is needed. The portable microphone shall be carried in a state of readiness, and all members must be on the same channel.
